Omar A Jallow, an ex-member of former President Yahya Jammeh’s hit-squad, painted a gruesome picture on the murder of Haruna Jammeh.Jallow, a member of the hit-squad notoriously called the Junglers told the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission, on Tuesday, that he with one Alieu Jeng tied a rope around Haruna Jammeh’s neck, wrestled him to the ground where Sanna Manjang stamped on his neck killing him instantly.Haruna Jammeh was a cousin of former President Yahya Jammeh who reportedly ordered hit men to murder his now deceased cousin.
Jallow said they took the late Jammeh from the custody of the now defunct National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and took him to the bush where he was executed. He said he was not informed about the operations until Manjang jumped on Jammeh’s neck.After the late Jammeh was killed, Jallow said they took his remains to the same well they dumped Ghanaians nationals who they had executed three days earlier.
He said he was not happy with the decision not briefed him of the planned murder until it happened right before his eyes. He, however, said that Tumbul Tamba and Solo Bojang later explained to him that the order to murder the deceased Jammeh came from his cousin, Yahya Jammeh.
Jallow said they told him that the former President alleged Haruna Jammeh killed his store keeper and shepherd.Meanwhile, Jallow has also confessed to participating in the execution of the thirty Ghanaian nationals in a forest in Casamance, Southern Senegal.
He said they were told the migrants were mercenaries. Jallow said the orders for the execution came from former president Yahya Jammeh.The former Jungler also confessed to torturing several people including Imam Baba Leigh and Imam Ba Kawsu Fofana.
After the end of his testimony, on Wednesday, Jallow counted to killing or participating in the murder of al least forty-eight people. He blamed Yahya Jammeh and the pecking order of answering to superiors in the army that left junior rankers with no other choices but compelled to follow commanders and orders. He said, even up to date, he had no knowledge of the rules and orders governing the army as he’s completely ignorant of them. He asked for forgiveness as the man responsible, through his actions, for causing the shedding many tears in the country.
