The demons of presidential self-perpetuation and the abuse of incumbency are once again rearing their ugly heads on the Gambian political scene.

Adama Barrow has for all intent and purpose thrown Gambians back into the dark ages when everything in politics revolves around the personality of one single individual. He is speaking a language too familiar for comfort. Yes, we have been there before. Dawda Jawara and Yahya Jammeh were both fond of constantly reminding us that we owe them the nation because they have delivered us “independence” and self-determination respectively.

They went on to stay for decades in power without any thing to show for it except more poverty and misery for the masses of the people.

Adama Barrow, however, was emboldened to silently denounce the agreement that brought him to power by none other than the man he refers to as his political godfather, Ousainou Numukunda Darboe. Both men connived against the will of The Gambian people to grab and consolidate power in a manner that should have sent shivers down our spines. Ousainou for now, has failed in the endeavor to seal the pact with his party agenda. And I believe, we should not allow Adama Barrow to ride on us like his predecessors did.

We shouldn’t any more allow leaders to lie to us and get away with it. I openly call on all citizens of The Gambia to set an example by kicking Adama out of power come January 2020 through mass protests and civil disobedience in and out of the country. The future generation is owed that much.
