Has God Finally Registered a Political Party?

OpinionGuest EssaysHas God Finally Registered a Political Party?

According to the Vice President of The Gambia, Isatou Touray, to be an opponent of Adama Barrow is blasphemous. She is not alone in her views. A few Muslim religious leaders have made similar pronouncements either on their pulpits during sermons or in other gatherings.

It’s not hard to use religion and dogma to hoodwink Gambians and Africans in general into submitting their rights and freedoms to anyone who claims to be talking on behalf of God. Obviously, human psychology is such that spiritual matters evoke the biggest and most sensitive of emotions. Isatou Touray and those imams know this very well and they will not hesitate to exploit it for power, control and resources.

But if God is the one who has chosen Adama Barrow to be the president of The Gambia, why did he and his cohorts deemed it necessary to register a political party in preparation for elections in 2021 to canvass for the votes of Gambians? Or is it God who has also registered a political party for them?

Gambians are equal in ownership of the country and all its wealth. The moment each and every Gambian becomes aware of this simple fact, a dignified and prosperous citizenry will be born.

Mystification of state power breeds corruption, tyranny, dictatorship, henchmen, bad governance and self-perpetuation in political office. So far, Gambians have succeeded in mystifying the three heads of state we have had until now. That’s one of the major reasons we are at the bottom of nearly all and every development index in the world.

The solution lies in our hands. A properly educated and enlightened Gambians, who are conscious of their ownership of the country and the wealth in it, will not be political or religious pawns for people like Isatou Touray, who are hungry to be perceived as demigods.
