Yankuba Touray Faced A New Count

NationalYankuba Touray Faced A New Count

By Kaddy Jawo

Yankuba Touray faced a new count barely a day after he was charged with the murder of the former Finance Minister Ousman Koro Ceesay in 1995.

On Tuesday, the State filed an additional charge of contempt of court against him. The new charge stemmed from Touray’s refusal to testify before the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC). The Commission ordered his arrest as a result and referred him to the Attorney General’s Chambers for prosecution, but the State initially charged him with murder. He was denied bail and remanded to Mile Two Prison.

During Touray’s arraignment on the contempt charge, his lawyer Abdoulie Sissoho raised issues with the High Court concerning its jurisdiction to hear the case. The court is expected to make a ruling on the matter on July 23, 2019.
