With great effort and a semblance of sincerity, Momodou Sowe tried but failed miserably to give a humane face to a place known to many as hell on earth. Repeatedly, Sowe tries to discredit witness testimonies that torture has even taken place in Bamba Dinka. That is the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) the now so-called the State Intelligence Services (SIS).
There is no question that material evidence has been tampered with. According to Sowe, it was not their intentions to tamper but to reform, reposition, recalibrate, reimage, reeducate, re-religion, reorientate and re-everything so that this terrible institution can escape its past. A past marked by torture, rape and wanton killing of citizens.
There is no justification to keep funding this institution with tax payers’ money for even a day. Its purpose has been reduced to just keep people like Sowe “employed” for them to earn salaries.
The physical structure, all the stains, hooks and inscriptions should have been left untouched to be eventually turned into a museum and a memorial for the fallen victims, the survivors and for the future generations to learn from.
One should wonder how the visit of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC) to the premises of the slaying of Solo Sandeng and other countless victims must have felt for their spouses, children and family members.
The relics of torture and the entire killing machine couldn’t have just evaporated into thin air. The right persons to ask these questions are alive and kicking, and they are Momodou Sowe and Yankuba Badjie.
The immediate task of the ministry of interior should be to reconstruct the premise back to its original form, or as close to it as possible. The SIS SHOULD IMMEDIATELY VACATE those premises which shall consequently be looked after by the appropriate authority for archiving state cultural and memorial artifacts as antiquities.
Hello! Is anyone listening?
